Effaced welcomes Sarah Haviland as Research Assistant

Effaced is delighted to welcome Sarah Haviland to the team as a Research Assistant. 

Sarah's work focuses on human rights and gender, with a particular interest in how these issues shape people's experiences in conflict settings. Before joining Effaced, she supported USAID-funded human rights and access –to justice projects in Benin, Burkina Faso, and Niger, and worked on research related to civilian protection. 

Sarah holds a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from The Fletcher School at Tufts University, where she focused on Gender and Intersectional Analysis and Human Security and Humanitarian Affairs. While at Fletcher, she researched the Taliban's violations of women's and girls' rights in Afghanistan and co-authored sections of a published report examining the Taliban's compliance with CEDAW. 

At Effaced, Sarah is supporting a multi-country evaluation of an international NGO's portfolio focused on improving health outcomes for people who use drugs. She co-authored the Desk Review, which was conducted using a large language model; Sarah helped develop the human verification protocols and served as a human verifier herself. She went on to code qualitative data in Atlas.ti and will continue supporting the evaluation through the analysis, interpretation, and report-writing phases. 

Sarah is also applying her gender expertise to a survey focused on women in the maritime sector — part of the gender advisory services Effaced, along with another consultant, is providing to Ipsos Switzerland, prime awardee of a contract from the International Maritime Organization. 

Sarah has already made an indelible mark on Effaced, and we're excited to continue working with her.
